Rebecca Lafont
I studied fine art and fashion in the U.K. and moved to Paris over 20 years ago where I have been lucky enough to work in costume, clothing design and textiles. Today my studio is in Montreuil where I continue to freelance and paint, draw and research.
Fhairplay is drawn by hand, hair by hair using techniques learned as a textiles designer. I choose to draw people who inspire me.
One question people ask is how long does one portrait take?
On average each piece takes around 18 hours, time for me to fall in love with each and every one. It all began when I painted my husband and realised that his hair was enough for me to recognise him. It all seems to have snowballed (hairballed?) from there.
Fhairplay is inspired by conversation worthy hairstyles.
After my family I started to draw famous footballers. As a big fan of their trend defying hair cuts I wanted to create a sort of fantasy football team of hair to wear. Since the success of these legendary dos, I have gone on to embrace stars of tennis, art, music, cinema… and even royalty. The collection is ever growing with new capillary heroes.
To print the illustrations I have carefully sourced quality t-shirts that are 100% organic cotton and certified fair-trade. The paper I have chosen for my signed numbered prints is top grade 100% recycled. All the digital printing is done locally using the latest technology.
